Artist Statement

As many have done in mythology, I relate the beauty of water to feminine deity. I see the ocean as life giving, fertile, powerful, sensual, changing and mysterious. Water has long been equated with the feminine aspects of creation, nature and spirituality. In my art, my brush strokes mimic expressions of water through how I paint, creating currents, splashes, fluidity and an overall sense of flow. Oceanic blues fill my palette evoking peace, clarity and tranquility. I am also inspired by water's glimmering interaction with light. I discovered a unique technique that I haven't seen before;  to imitate the effects of water's refractive nature, I use rare, precious materials such as genuine mother of pearl, real abalone shell, dichroic metallics and layers of translucent, reflective mylar. The harmony of these elements together create my interpretation of the sea in relation to elated emotions, magic & femininity.
